This program was created to help Minnesota renters who are at risk of losing their housing due to the COVID-19 pandemic and reimburse property owners for missed rent payments. If you have fallen behind on your rent, we are here to help. Find out if you qualify and begin your application today.
PROGRAM DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS
The RentHelpMN rental assistance program has announced a submission deadline for new applications and re-applications.
The deadline to apply for assistance from the statewide RentHelpMN program is Friday, January 28 at 9:00 p.m.
If you are behind on rent, you may apply for past-due rent, utilities and up to one month of forward rent.
Applications will not be accepted after Friday, January 28 at 9:00 p.m. If you have started an application but have not hit “Complete” and then “Okay” on the last page, it will not be processed and cannot be changed after the deadline. If you have already submitted a RentHelpMN application, it will continue to be processed and you do not need to call 211 unless you have an immediate question.
RentHelpMN is Protection Against Eviction
If you are a renter facing eviction for non-payment of rent, a pending application for emergency rental assistance is a protection. Renters who receive an eviction notice must still respond and need to show up to court to show proof of their application. Staff from Minnesota Housing are present at court sessions to provide information to all parties. Learn more about the eviction process and how to protect yourself at homelinemn.org.
Be sure to use our Get Ready checklists to help you prepare your application. Find more helpful forms and templates to upload when you apply.
